Baldo has a job, and hopefully gets an employee discount at the Auto Parts store. So where does his money go? If he’s saving for college, that’s great – but maybe the car comes AFTER college when he has a better paying job. And in that case, the car needs to go. I’ve known several guys with project cars, and they were all adults with good paying jobs. If college is his plan, he needs to sell what he has of that car and put his money into his college fund. And if college isn’t his plan, what is he doing with his money? Dad is right. Baldo needs to prioritize.
I love how this illustrates multiple priorities. Baldo has financial priorities, his dad has operational priorities. Both valid. One negative to Baldo’s priority is not knowing whether he will ever be able to afford all the necessary parts. His dad should have the same concern.
Can’t tell from rbullfogg comment, but those models came with drum brakes. Not pads, but shoes. Only place to get drums would be a parts recycle place. A cheap disk kit might actually cost less, unless one removed the parts oneself from a “pick your part” lot, if they could be found in re-usable condition. This depicted project is inane, especially with such a character lacking any sort of responsibility or motivation, let alone means, to make any progress. I thought the authors had abandoned this car arc long ago, and IMO, they should change something or drop it.
I understand that the Rule of Funny means you have to accept some silliness, but this whole running bit bothers me. The history was that Sergio bought the (part of ) a car and announced that he and Baldo would fix it up together. Baldo agrees but says he will pay for it. Sergio says “fine.”
It made no sense, Baldo can’t afford any meaningful parts on his part-time pay, and Sergio shouldn’t allow him to sink that money into heap that’s sitting out in the weather. He should be saving part of it at least.
There’s been no indication that either is doing any work on it. Considering that even for a part of a car like that, Sergio probably paid a fair amount, it’s a waste of money all around. He should have bought a 10+ YO car that runs but needs work, then they’d have something they could work on together for reasonable money.
It’s likely that when the strip ends the car will look just like that.
Perhaps a future episode of Baldo vs. the 62 Chevy will show an empty spot in the driveway with Baldo gazing at it and sighing, then walking off into the sunset.
How ’bout fixing it so it runs and drives rather than chrome frivolities as in past episodes! I lived nine miles from my job fancies like chrome and paint never entered into it. Keep it running for work!

Brake shoes on a 63 impala. Not to mention the left A arm and spindle is missing!

Fixing the speedometer necessitates having a working transmission AND a running car. Definitely a very long project. Keep the dream alive though….

Replacing that missing Door will save him from having to deal with Interior Rust down the road.
Not to mention the Mosquito infestation when they Breed in the standing water trapped inside.
Although, I’m going to assume the Seats are already ruined from being rained on.
