I would always carry a clipboard with me on my breaks!! Whenever “the boss” would be seen in the area, I just took out my pen/pencil and looked “busy” doing “something!!” It worked like a charm!!
But chief, I’m only on a break from doing my regular paid job. I’m now doing unpaid job steadying the water cooler from tipping over preventing a potential spill where someone might slip and fall, then suing you and the company for unsafe working environment. So in the long run, I’m saving you money!
I guess the boss is saying that he is saying that Brutus has taken too long a break. Brutus needs to have a ready retort for those situation such as: “No Boss, I was just discussing the ‘Smith’ account with some fellow employees on a better way for us to be more efficient so that we raise our profit margin. I didn’t think you would mind. However, I won’t let it happen again”, and then just walk off…..
Well Brutus, you certainly handled that incident with Veeblefester as badly as you possibly could. You looked guilty, you acted guilty, you admitted guilt and then you played dumb.
my first boss was a fountain of pithy aphorisms that flew over my head. one of his favorites was, if you’ve got five minutes don’t spend it with someone who doesn’t…

I used that clip routine on a real job, but then I was the boss.

Time flies when you’re having fun. It’ll soon be half past a pink slip.

What a coincidence! A quarter is approximately what Veeblefester is paying him, too.

Carry a broom, dummkopf. You’re never doing something wrong with one in your hands.

This might be the worst thing I have seen Brutus say to the chief.
