The Atacama desert is home to the darkest and cleanest skies in the world. A view to the nightsky rewards with uncountable numbers of stars and fantastic nebulas in one of the most quiet a empty places on earth. Not a single noise distracts from the grand show the nightsky has to offer. The environment is harsh though. Filmed in freezing temperatures, altitudes up to 5000m/16000ft, salt lakes and icy slopes, the Atacama is not friendly to life and equipment. Though it provides without doubt for epic and vast vistas of one of the greatest landscapes on earth. MUSIC: “ You’ll Believe A Man Can Fly” – Mattia Cupelli

In just a few minutes Mom will have to send Dad out to fetch them in. Not long after that she’ll have to go get them herself. A bit after that Red’ll have to use the bathroom and so they’ll all end up back inside, ready for bed, a wonderful family.
I am looking forward to moving out to the mountains (well, Blue Ridge Mountains) when I retire and away from a lot of the light pollution around the cities.
Late to the show and now I wonder if there is any significance that this was published on Grandparents Day? Or 20 years after 9/11. I feel like there may be more poignancy in this one than just to be a pretty drawing…

I’m basically an urban person. I only remember seeing stars clearly one time as an adult. It is an awesome experience!
