But there are billions of insects that would fly into a fire. Perhaps Peter meant that B.C. is a member of the second dumbest SPECIES on Earth. But then that species includes them both. Things that make you go “Hmm.”
We’re not far behind that statement as a species. Just watch the news tonight. For example, street racing SUV’s, some of the most unstable vehicles when driven at high speed.
I infer that Peter had likely just said to B.C. (for whatever reason – probably for something that B.C. had just done or said) “You’re the dumbest creature on earth.”
Then Peter’s statement in the last panel is a step forward (perhaps even a compliment), as in “Well okay, you’re (at least) not as dumb as this fly that just flew into the fire.”

He has, however, been promoted to dumbest living creature on Earth.

So is that how the firefly got its name? Kind of obvious in hindsight.

If that was a fly, he was dumb. But a moth is powerless to resist the lure of the light.

I believe we have been visited by aliens in the past, perchance that may be the very reason they no longer visit.

The insect was probably dying to keep warmth.
