The first time a kid calls you, “mister.”
When you have to check a woman’s hand to see if she is married.
When people ask you, “Are you still working?”
She’s from a much earlier era, when cold calls were made in person. Maybe Maybelline or Electrolux. She’s just being cautious with her opening by including a casual name for parent and using non-threatening manner.
No. They are not home. Last time I checked they were still in the cemetery.

Not that far fetched if this comic were about 50 years in the future when most Millennials are still living at home!
