For an 8-y-o who can maybe remember half of them, a two year shift can seem like … half his life?
I can remember those times. At eighty, I can nap through a couple years that are now made twice as long by idiots that can’t even come up with a consistent excuse for being idiots. My parents and grandparents lived through rougher periods without a fraction of the support we have today. What a waste.
“Anything that is in the world when you’re born is normal and ordinary and is just part of the way the world works. Anything that’s invented between when you’re 15 and 35 is new and exciting and revolutionary, and you can probably get a career in it. Anything invented after you’re after 35 is against the natural order of things.” —Douglas Adams
Today’s strip would make a lot more sense if it had depicted the previous school year as not being normal, but it fact it was shown as being just the same as every other school year.

Normality is over-rated. I prefer oddity (within normal bounds).

What’s normal to one person is abnormal (or seems to be abnormal) to another. Is that weird? Or is that normal?

Some people are so desperate for normal they’re willing to risk YOUR life.

Maybe Caulfield wishes he was normalized!

He spent the last ten years or so in the same grade. He must know what normal is.
