We did this once in the Smokies. No bears, but the next morning the field mice had chewed into the backpacks and eaten half a pack of peanut butter nabs.
In Yosemite, we had a bear cub wander into our camp one evening, climb the tree, turned a backpack around to face him, Unzip the Zipper(!), take out what he wanted, and leave. We didn’t dare try to stop him because we just knew that mama had to be watching from the background. Ah, camping!
