Yeah, there certainly was NO sabotage of science and scientists by Trump appointees, right Stantis?

And those crummy scientists should have seen the pandemic coming and forced their states to stockpile medical equipment, right? WTH were they doing, anyway?

Speaking of Doo-Doo and Science . .This is not off topic, but I heard they’ve improved the little automatic floor sweeper/vacuum to recognize pet doo-doo and avoid it. See scientists do know shit. . . . /S

What some people fail to understand is that science isn’t a destination but a journey and things may change along that journey as new things are discovered. Many scientific “truths” are only true based on the knowledge we currently have. If that knowledge changes, so can that truth.

Scientists change their minds when good new information is available. Why is that such a problem for Carmen to get through her obviously (in today’s toon) thick head? Winslow is no help, but what more should you expect from a lowly coyote?

The fact is that areas where people all wear masks have a much lower rate of disease transference. Masks are mandatory in China, with a heavy fine and/or jail for noncompliance.

They are making decisions on the basis of the best available information, using a wide body of knowledge, and years of experience in the field.

Carmen’s rant in today’s comic represents the view of someone who has not learned to think critically. It’s sad to realize that there are so many people who have reached adulthood without being able to recognize nuance. Makes me think of the song “Shades of Gray” by The Monkees; people want everything easy like b&w, but real life is not like that.

And if we had all quarantined for 8 weeks back in April-May of 2020, we wouldn’t need the fricken masks now. Idiots.

Conservatives, pfffft. First they are for the Constitution, then they’re not; for law&order then they’re overthrowing the government; first they are for Free Speech, then only if you say what they want to hear; they want to impeach a POTUS on dubious, trivial charges, then deny it when there are actual real crimes committed.

Geezopete Carmen, why don’t you guys make up your minds?

That is a common misconception by a lot of the Right. Scientists don’t “change” their minds. They accept new evidence.

No, that’s not the case, Carmen, that’s just Stantisferlame convincing you to be a mushbrain. Resist Stantisferlame. The Q-Anoners are the saddest of the 70 million petulant children.

Many good comments here. Remember too that the virus itself has changed over time. Science has to adapt to that.

Science is a technique for discovering the truth, it is not the “truth”. You trust science means you trust that the process is always improving moving towards the truth. Science also means when you are wrong you drop it and change, once upon a time science thought disease was caused by bad air and unpleasant humors, but as greater study was done it was discovered that bad air, Mal Aria, was not the cause and we moved closer to solving malaria.

Scientists don’t change their minds…they discover new evidence and alter their conclusions accordingly. It’s isn’t like changing your mind about a shirt you bought last week and deciding you don’t like it anymore.

If you have a functioning brain, you are NOT part of Qanon. The first step is to turn off and/or damage your a-brain.

Yes, Dr. Fauci initially said masks weren’t needed. The main reason was that he worried if people were told to wear them, they would hoard them like they did toilet paper, Clorox wipes, and other items, and health care workers would not have enough. Also, we learned more about how the virus spread as time went on and scientists changed their recommendations to match new data.

Odd how the anti-science crowd expects people to accept that the crowd changes its own minds all the time (depending on how the conspiracy theories blow), but the same crowd will not accept that scientists change their advice as they learn new facts…

I sure hope everyone sees the sarcasm in this strip and go all tribal and assume this is a shot at science. This is a shot at those who actually think that science’s aim is nefarious and fail to understand that the scientific process evolves; this does not mean they don’t know what they are doing, it means as they learn more they sharpen their thinking.

Actually, scientist only change their minds when new evidence or data cause them to re-evaluate or modify their beliefs. That’s how scientific progress is made, and why experimentation, publication and dissemination of new information is so vital today.
