Good for you, Earl.

We had a dog when I was a kid. “Clammy” (short for “Calamity Jane”). Clammy was completely panicked by thunderstorms, which there were a lot of where we lived. There were no “dog tranquilizers” in those days… so she was locked into the bathroom. She tore holes in the plaster walls in her panic!  After that, she was kept with one of her humans actually hugging her for the hour or two of each thunderstorm.

My brother rubbed MY nose in it!

You think rubbing the dogs nose in it will do anything other than making a mess?Read to the dog it will accomplish the same thing… NOTHING!

Some times, even when you admit the error, someone has to rub your nose in it. It’s knows as the nyah, nyah syndrome, which some people exhibit from birth.

I did not think that Earl was capable of learning.

Pet Supply Stores carry an item called a “Thundershirt” that you can wrap your dog in. It is designed to make the dog feel secure during the storm.

Do you think the TV set can be any closer to you guys, Earl?

This technique does not teach a dog to be housebroken. It teaches a dog to hide it better next time.

Ew! Most times the pooch doesn’t even remember his accident …

That’ll teach them.

A dog owner got mad at his dog for pooping on the rug, so he rubbed the dog’s nose in it and tossed him out a near by window. The next day the dog pooped on the floor stuck his nose in it and jumped out the window! That correction does not work, positive re -enforcement does!

A rare disappointment.

Hey, maybe that’s the reason they eat their poop as adults.

The Pickles are truly old-fashioned. Earl is watching a CRT television.
