The same shape works for both hat and boat.

With 7 grandkids, dollar origami makes me the cool grandpa.

Some adult in my family showed me how to fold a cup out of paper. “Cool” I thought. It wasn’t. Leaked like a sieve starting from 1/10 of a second after water touched it.

I threw a paper airplane in class and it hit the teacher.

I was notorious for taking the end of a straw wrapper and shooting the wrapper ! Lately it seems the straw people got wise and it does not work any more!

The folding that produces the paper hat can be further folded to produce a boat. As kids, we would sometimes produce a navy of boats and an air force of paper planes from newspapers. And then we might “play war” with them.

The paper hat can also be folded and unfolded in various ways to make a fireman’s hat, a pirate hat, and others.

I tossed a glider from a Louisiana hotel’s 5th floor and it made it to the Mississippi river. Tried several more times and had no success. This I attributed to the third hurricane………I drank that night.

You should have waited until you were out of the house to throw the “hat” away, Nelson…

Earl is trying to do something nice for his grandson, who doesn’t appreciate it. To me, this is a very depressing comic—-non-comic.

My Gramps used to fold dollar bills into little boats for me. I wish I’d never spent them. (Or thrown them away Nelson.) I’d pay $100 each if I could get them back!

In our 1955 Freshman Foundation year at R.I.S.D. teacher in our class in ‘Form & Function’ gave us a challenge to fold paper in a construct that could hold up a grand piano. Yes, it is possible!

    He always folded.

I once did a demonstration/speech in a college course on how to make an origami crane. When the students critiqued my speech, they all basically said that I should get an A because they saw that my hands were shaking so badly from nerves. And yes, I still hate to do any kind of public (more than 3 people) speaking.
