“Don’t pack, Eurydice, Dear !”/ Said Orpheus – ever sincere./ “Keep your eye on the track/ and don’t look back !/ We’re getting the Hell outta here !” /// We all know what this is about./ Did you think she might make it out ?/ Then you don’t know your Greeks/ and their tragic techniques./ The outcome was never in doubt !

So it’s true. Eurydice was one of the original Poynter Sisters.

This is Orpheus, (destined for strife), / and Eurydice, (she’s his late wife). / They are both down in Hades. / She, (unlike most dead ladies), / can be led by her man back to life. /// As you see, he brought his lyre along, / to make use of his magical song. / Thus was Hades defied, / Cerberus pacified, / but then later, things went very wrong. /// If he ever hoped death to defeat, / he must follow the rules, and not cheat. / Was this plan a mistake? / She’d been bit by a snake; / now the snakes slither by their bare feet. /// Hades warned him, “When you flee this place / you must not turn to look at her face!” / To get both back alive / he’d need faith to survive. / He looked back, thereby earning disgrace.

    Imagine if you will,

    the overwhelming thrill,

    when younger brother Will,

    learns of his siblings skill,

    In crafting lines of wit,

with which to art works fit,

    as captions apropos,

    for paintings that do show,

    subjects which may although,

have yet but one sole meaning,

    become humorous and demeaning!

In awe of he who writes prolific,

The constant jibes which are terrific,

I hold him in the same regard.

As they hold Shakespeare, he ‘the Bard’

    His rapier wit and intellect,

Are quick the paintings to dissect,

And when it has been said and done,

We’ve been provided with some fun.

Whilst from his pen there is no dearth,

Of the ceaseless pouring of such mirth,

I commend our mother for his birth.

I’m glad to be his younger brother.

The choice for me would be no other.

He guided me into the light,

    Examplar of erudite,

And though I strive to match his skill,

    I am aware I never will. . .

The original play was a hit/ but the box office lagged a bit/ until Jacques Offenbach/ brought in a new flock/ from his place in the orchestra pit..///old Jacques had a way with a tune/ twas he wrote the “Can-can”, and soon/ they were packing them in/ as they never had been/ they filled every seat before noon. ///We still love that ditty of his/ so you know that the man was a whiz/ and the drama archival/ is due for revival/ because (after all) “that’s show biz !”

The Rock Music genre was originally just a reference to where the music was played. “And Roll” was added later as the band was “stoned” by an unappreciative audience and their bodies subsequently rolled down the nearest and deepest crevasse.
