Always have a nitelight because when I have to get up at 3am and go to the bathroom I do not want to trip over furniture, shoes or the bone the dog left right by the side of the bed.
I used to tell myself as a child that just because I saw a very scary movie, that didn’t mean I was more likely to have an intruder of any kind. Logical, but hard to stick with all night sometimes. As I got a bit older, all the horror movies were comedies to me anyway. I think on Halloween night it wasn’t so hard to fall asleep due to tiredness.
There’s nothing in the dark that isn’t there when the lights are on.
That’s a sentiment that I can appreciate now that I’m a full-grown, reasonably mature adult. In my younger days, I couldn’t quite grasp the logic of it, to calm my fears. So yes, Wilberforce, we’ll leave the light on for you.

I’m not afraid of heights, I’m afraid of falling from them. (ditto for airplanes)

Try turning the lights off at night and stare at something in the dark. It’ll start looking like it’s moving…
