This reminds me of a classic line that the Kingston Trio once used on stage in reference to a particular politician: “We’ve stopped making fun of him because he’s so good at it himself”. Satchel’s grammar in the last panel alone makes him a perfect illustration of self parody.
“Satchel may be a potato. but I do believe he is a sweet potato” – to misquote Winston Churchill. Or, as Popeye says: “I yam what I yam.” And Bucky looks like an artist’s model for a still life titled “Insult in Silence”
I feel this strip alone should have won Conley another National Cartoonists Society Award for 2010; (I love you “Dustin” by Steve Kelley and Jeff Parker. :~) ) Of course, it may have needed the whole 11 years of character build-up to be so rich.

Wait. This tuber is an imposter. It’s missing an appendage. It looks more like my sister.

Panels 4 – 6 are terrific. Without a word, they tell a story over time.

Sometimes these two remind me of a cleaned up Ren & Stimpy.

Want to drive a Vegan crazy? Tell them that a potato is not a vegetable.

What life is this cat on? He should have run out long ago, but then what would the comic be without him?

Both the spud and the dog look like Sontarans.
