Not kicking another player is a bad thing?

In the past I have mentioned the comics “Valiant” and “Krazy” in relation to the long-running comic “Buster” in which the title strip was largely inspired by Andy Capp – indeed several UK readers have mentioned that the main character was Buster Capp – son of Andy Capp.

The last issue of “Valiant” and the first edition of “Krazy” were dated 16 October 1976 so today marks the 45th anniversary of those editions. “Valiant” lasted from 1962 to 1976 and it contained the comic strips “Billy Bunter – The Heavyweight Chump of Greyfriars” and “Mowser – The Priceless Puss” which were both drawn by Reg Parlett who drew the “Buster’s Diary” strip in “Buster” from 1974 to 1984. Parlett also drew a strip for “Krazy” which was called “Fit Fred and Sick Sid” about a fitness fanatic and a hypochondriac. Another strip in “Krazy” was “Paws” which was drawn by Leslie Harding who got Reg Smythe his first job as a cartoonist.

I’m uncertain how someone as bone-idle, work shy, and out-of-condition (to quote the great Onslow) as Andy Capp can manage the strength and energy to play football.

And it’s a testament as to your good character that you do not give yourself credit for knocking out that referee.

I used to try to take their shoes off. I’d step on the back of their heel.

It’s not hard to play dirty but it is hard not to get caught, although, it’s often the second player who gets caught … retaliating.

Andy would do well in ice hockey as an enforcer…if they still allow such activity.

Andy thinks he’s at his best when he’s acting his worst.

An (American) football coach was going to teach his team to play soccer to help them with their on-field agility.

“What’s soccer,” asked one player.

“It’s a game where you try to kick the ball into the goal or kick the other player in the shins,” said the coach. “We’ll get started as soon as the equipment manager arrives with the ball.”

“We don’t need the ball,” said the player. “Let’s play now.”
