I love Calvin, but his situations take me back to some bad times and I get empathy pangs; I guess it is good to exorcise those demons, but it still hurts to know that there are still beautiful young kids out there going through the same thing…
Somehow, I don’t think fighting Moe will make Calvin feel better in any way. If he fights, he’s just given in to Moe’s rules. Best answer: I’m not going to fight you for it. I don’t have to fight you for it because it’s my truck.
I would then get a teacher - just as I would get a cop if someone stole my car rather than try to take the law into my own hands.
Calvin is pretty gutsy to stand up to Moe like that. He must really want his truck back. It’s a gamble, but sometimes standing up to a bully will earn his/her respect. 50/50 chance. Good luck, Calvin!

Thank said, having been bullied most of my school years (esp Jr/Sr high) and having had a son severely bullied in upper elementary I can relate to Calvin, and I am proud of him for at least trying to stand up for himself. Too bad it usually ends so painfully in real life. But both my son & I managed to survive and become productive members of society. Some of our bullies are behind bars where our tax dollars go to support them….
Where are the teachers in this? I was NEVER on the playground when I was in elementary school, without at LEAST 3-4 teachers around. It just wasn’t done….
It’s not the size of the month Calvin, it’s the size of the… Oh never mind just kick Moe in the shin grab your truck and run!
Then tomorrow when Moe’s crying about how bad his leg hurts you can tell me to rap some coal-oil rags around his ankle… It won’t help with the pain but it’ll keep the ants from crawling up his leg and eating his candy back-side!
G’morning all.
Ever notice how the size of Moe’s fists seem almost half the size of his head. Almost anatomically correct in comparison to Calvin’s. LOL
Calvin…sometimes it is important to stick up for yourself…even if it means you may lose. Some Bullies
will run when they find out that you will stand up to them
Frankr, et. al., us late risers would appreciate it even more if you guys would just flag and move on. Actually no benefit if you have to post about it. Regular spam is easily skipped over without having to read a single word. Flag spammer posts can require a moment or two to recognize and skip.
Moe can be of some use some day, society can use that apple to do things that are wrong and I dont want to do.
Calvin you are a brave little guy I wish I had more of that when I was little.
I’m very proud of the little guy for standing up for himself! As long as he doesn’t back down and run away, maybe Moe will give in and give Calvin his truck back? You just never know! Some bullies are only bullies until you fight back then they’re the ones that are intimidated and run away scared.
As Will Smith, The Fresh Prince once said: “A good run is better than a bad stand any day.” And let me tell you, there is no shame in running to an authority figure to get them to intervene.
In the 1950’s when I was anywhere near Calvin’s age, there were no teachers in sight. We were left to our own devices. Getting a teacher to help is a good idea. Being patient with Moe and waiting for an opportunity to get the truck back after he leaves it is another option. Guys like Moe, sooner or later, come to their deserved ends, and, by that time, they are well out of your life and the truck will have been long forgotten, sort of. I too, have had experiences like this and hadn’t even thought of them until now.
The one time I had a bully situation (3 against me) at school, I managed to stall the action long enough by talking (and thankfully, a male friend who was 2 years older happened by right then, making the odds less uneven). Eventually, a vice principal rode past on his scooter, and herded the bullies off to the office. Whew!
My boys didn’t have problems like that in school - I homeschooled them. However, the youngest had a boy assigned to his homeschool bowling league team, who had gotten kicked out of public school for fighting. This boy (about a head shorter than my son) kept trying to pick a fight with him. My son let him know that he didn’t want to fight, but if he had to, he’d kick his opponent in the nuts. That pretty well stopped the boy from trying to start a fight with my son.
I’d always instructed my boys that if someone was trying to snatch them, they could fight dirty. When it comes to kidnappers, no holds barred!
I don’t know if I would have confronted Moe. He must have really liked that truck. Big mouth? maybe, but also a belief in humanity, that I no longer have.
With a lunk that size, you got to leap at his face like a rabid squirrel and hold on to his nose with your teeth while vigorously clawing his head. Trust me, it’s the only way.

Whoa! I never said fighting would make him feel better, just that he would feel better for standing up for himself and speaking his mind.
