If it’s getting hot enough to safely cook off of using just the exterior of the device…then in my experience, that laptop’s probably already a lost cause, Horace.
I had my tablet charging on the bed and fell asleep looking at it (I know, not the smartest thing to do and something we are warned against!) well I woke up cause my arm was hurting. The adapter was stuck to my arm! It had literally melted my skin it got so damn hot, I still have a scar and that was a couple of years ago
