Ah, square/folk dancing, the winter recess (physical activity) I not only enjoyed but excelled at! Outdoor recess activities only underscored my lack of coordination!
Yeah, teach them things they’ll use as can adult. “Do you want fries with that?” “Your car warranty is about to expire.” “Your company computers are locked. You can open them by sending $500M (US$) in Bitcoin to….”
Actually those were valuable life lessons.1) Square dancing taught us how to do useless and meaningless routines 5o please the higher ups.2) Dodgeball prepared us for the usual social interactions of American society.3) Running a whole mile prepares us for getting through a week of work, kids schedules and homemaking.
Actually, I liked square dancing and playing dodge ball in elementary school. (The 50’s.)I don’t remember it being that violent. Maybe because I was good at it. Only the more coordinated kids played. And as far as running, I became a sprinter in high school. If I had been smarter, I probably could have gone to college on a scholarship. Maybe!

Square dancing used to be fun, then the old people (and I’m 70) got really rigid about costuming and everyone under 65 dropped out.

Um, still do those, actually. Although dodgeball is deemphasized, or modified to be a little less dangerous and/or exclusionary.

Then there was the goofy rhythm thing with the long bamboo poles, dancing in and out of them when they were clacked together…

Wow! I did all that stuff in school, plus archery! I didn’t think I was that old! Oh yeah, that’s right, I am. Sigh.
