Thinking of all the other things that also define Halloween makes me wonder if historically Halloween could be one of the most ancient celebrations. I don’t know how pumpkins became associated with Halloween, perhaps Washington Irving’s, The Legend ofSleepy Hollow, especially the headless horseman, or if he took inspiration from something earlier. Ghosts and death have been around a long time, long as I can remember, so did Halloween start back in the caves.
