I remember thinking those flashy, golden collectible cards/toys were real gold and worth a lot. The same with those medals we always got for participating in events.
“One ounce of gold may be hammered thin enough to cover more than 9 square meters (96.9 square feet) of a surface. The gold leaf may be only 0.18 microns (seven millionths of an inch) thick; a stack of 7,055 sheets would be no thicker than a dime.”

No other material can lend the brightness at a low cost. Gold is often used in package labeling ie Michelob and Godiva Chocolate labels.

Worth $5 outside the package. Unopened box of cards? Now you’re talking real money.

It might be worth a lot – in about 30 years, if people are still interested, AND it’s in mint condition.

As soldier I thought of medals as participation trophies. It’s the only time participation trophies are routinely given posthumously.

Might want to call it fool’s gold. Years ago one of my sons got a gold card or wrapper.

Of course, right ‘now’ it’s only worth a million to somebody willing to pay a million for it. Bonus points if they also have a million to pay for it.
