Those weren’t the results Dr. Mel asked for. It’s actually much easier to get the results you ask for if there is no study… We can all think of a recent person who needed no studies for his claims.
“If you punish the data long enough, it will confess to anything.” -economist Ronald Coase. How many news stories say “studies have shown…” without actually producing the study, let alone the underlying data. Science is a lot more complicated than media produced “studies.”
I find myself saying (and throwing things) what dr Mel just said at certain tv channels. Then I switch to thanos and say “Fine I’ll do the research myself”
I totally did this when I was diagnosed with cancer. I got upset with the radiologist tech… as if it was her fault. Of course, I had just had a baby 4 weeks previous and my hormones were a little wacky, but yeah, I totally did that! I said, “You better be joking! I have a 4 week old baby and 4 other children at home!” Thank goodness everything turned out alright, relatively speaking. It still sucked to go through it all though. Very, very hard year.
“Shooting the messenger” is not metaphor. We have often rewarded the bearer of bad news, with grave injury. Until the advent of modern telecommunication, now we messenger’s just phone it in. Safer that way.
Well … while I don’t approve of abuse being heaped onto the messenger, at least Winky wasn’t killed, or shot, as the practice of “killing the messenger” can be traced as far back as 442 B. C., and eventually was paraphrased to “don’t shoot the messenger,” when we pioneered our way to the West. :)
