Our local marathon specifically asks you to throw the cups on the ground so you don’t get in the way of other runners by stopping at trash cans. It’s not just littering to be inconsiderate, they have a sweep truck that cleans it up! (And hopefully recycles.) Better still though there are some races which have runners carry reusable folding cups. London marathon and some others have tested edible seaweed cups!

This mess is cleaned up, but what about the plastic in the rivers, streams, and oceans? Killing sea life…..
