Huh. I walk into our house past the dryer vent at the back door, and had noticed that odor without ever getting to where Frazz got. Of course, on a REALLY COLD winter, we might get down to, oh, 9º F once. And stay below freezing for as much as a couple of weeks, though usually just a few days.
As Harumph mentioned, it’s the odor the kid is talking about. Clothes softener (liquid or sheets) are a bit of a controversy. And if you have a front loading washer, stay the heck away from liquid softeners, Accumulating residues of the stuff in the belly of your washer will stink up your house.
When we looked at and then moved into our house there was a lingering air freshener smell that drove me crazy. I soon found out that the previous owners kept one of those tiny gel things in one of the HVAC intakes. Took a long time to clear that perfumey scent out of the house entirely.

Honey, I finally figured out why people keep walking by the side of our house.

It is moist heat. It condenses and you get wet and colder.

Maybe it would help if you idiots wore gloves or mitts.

If he was still alive, imagine the size of Bill Taft’s clothes!
(He was president between Teddy Roosevelt and Woody Wilson)

I live downwind from someone who uses heavily scented dryer sheets. Ugh.

On my way to school on particularly cold days I’d stop at an apartment house to warm up in their laundry room.

that scented fabric softener should be banned!

coming from a scents triggered migraine sufferer!

I seem to prefer that my clothes freeze on the line before eventually drying.

Except love those who love overly perfumed dryer sheets. Stinks up a huge area.

I wonder if the Taft’s use Downy Unstopables; I use them, and the dryer vent smell is wonderful!

Smells like toxic chemicals from dryer sheets.

Unless they use WAY too much fragrance product in their laundry, then it’s chokingly bad.

Different season, but a non food comfort smell is when clothes are brought in from drying on the clothesline(s).
Especially just before it sprinkles or rains.
.
Some people used to iron the sheets after they were line dried. The whole room would smell delicious in a non food way.
