Imagine the COVID-19 or Spanish flu outbreaks at the time of the original publishing. Mom would definitely be contagious; Dad and Calvin would have to stay home quarantined (much to Calvin’s delight of staying home from school).
Think about it, Calvin: if you catch Mom’s illness, you’ll get to stay in bed, no school, and Mom will wait on you hand-and-foot (all the while grumbling).
When we moved into our new house, my adult son came to visit. We were out on the back porch having a beer when he pulled one of these on me. He told me that he appreciated all the things my wife and I did for him as he was growing up.
It took three hours for the swelling in my head to go down enough to get back indoors.
A rare show of affection between Calvin and mom. Occasionally we get to see that his parents do love him, even Dad in his own gruff “character building” way.

The last panel is the Calvin we know and begrudgingly love.

No Calvin, Mommydom is not contagious… it has been a speciality since eternity.

Overall, he’s a good kid. Might be an awesome kid if Mom and Dad would quit buying Chocolate Covered Sugar Bombs

Mom must be deathly ill to stay in bed like that. Most moms I know just try to soldier on until they get better or end up in the hospital.

As much as you dislike school, I thought you might want to catch what Mom has, Calvin…

Actually in the last panel, ‘Calvin’ is doing his best impression of ‘Sheldon Cooper’ of ‘TBBT’ ! ! ! !

You have to learn to “mom” yourself; it’s called becoming an adult.
