I hope it wasn’t Henery who did it.

    (Henery Hawk, Looney Tunes, 1942)

Well, it wasn’t the snake. But it was the chicken they were gonna eat next week.

It shouldn’t bother Arlo. But Ludwig might feel pressure to up his reputation as a fierce predator.

Had a visit from a hawk last Spring and one of the cats that staked out our bird feeders went missing. Maybe there’s no connection.

Not being a farmer I thought that was a known risk for raising chickens. I thought a certain amount of “shrinkage” of the flock was expected.

A friends friend lived in a mobile home where cats would have kittens…hawks and owls would pick off the kittens when they came out from under

When my kids were young, we had a house at the end of a street. We bordered a sandy, undeveloped area, with lots of vegetation. One day my seven year old daughter called me over to the window to watch a little family of bunnies. It was a couple of adults and a half dozen little ones. Suddenly there was a poof of sand, and one of the bunnies disappeared. “Look, daddy, that bird is taking him for a ride!” “Yes, honey, that’s exactly what’s going on…”

A hawk once swooped down and grabbed one of our ducks. He couldn’t clear the top of the fence though. The benefits of being well fed.

I once had a hawk circling my dog and I while on a walk. I kept moving my dog into my shadow, eventually carried her home after I heard screeching. They aren’t that common here, but after a fight with a goose trying to kill my dog once, I get very protective. (I won with the goose, and my dog was not harmed as I kept her behind me, and after the goose went for my face, I backed it off slowly by walking towards it while yelling and flapping my arms. That generally works for weird people, too.) My dog weighs about 18 lbs. I doubt my dog would have been carried off by the hawk, but she could have been seriously injured.

I live in Philadelphia, in the central part of the city. I went out one morning to get the bus to work and not three feet away on the sidewalk was a hawk tearing a pigeon to shreds. It didn’t even glance at me. Falcons are living on the ledges of some highrise buildings, and once I saw an eagle sitting in a tree, also happily consuming a pigeon.

My daughter had 6 chickens that were pets and something got into the coup one night and massacred all but one. My granddaughters were devastated.
