My first year away at college I came home for the holidays, opened my bedroom door and was hit with a blast of cold air. My mother said she’d forgotten to mention that they were using my room for cold storage, but I could sleep on the couch in the dining room. I read comments about young people who just continue to live at home. I always felt welcome, but it was assumed I would be moving out and getting on with my own life.
I was raised in the military. I told both the boys, at different times that if they wanted more than we could afford they would need to get jobs at 15. they did. I also told them they had a home for one year after they finished post secondary education. neither came back after uni or college. Both got good jobs and went off into the world. You MUST lay down strict guidelines but also let them know they can always come home when the inevitable downturn happens.

It took my parent’s less than a month after I moved out.

Although it seems to be taking them longer and longer to move out. Some friends have a 30 year old son who’s still there. But at least he works.

Son’s got it backwards. It’s already his Dad’s (and Mom’s) – they’re just letting him use it. I hope he realizes that.

If that was a prison cell, would it be a con-cave??

Oy! As Ann Landers once said….just shut the door! Messy rooms don’t alter their paths in life!

My kids will have to put up with my whole house after the grim reaper visits me and I recommend a Bobcat Compact Track Loader.
