Funny, radio station WKCR out of Columbia U. is in the middle of a marathon Bach fest 24 hours/day from Christmas Eve through New Year’s Eve. Tuning in now and then via live stream (at www.cc-seas.columbia.edu), I’ve heard the tune shown above several times. I guess it’s popularly known as Air on the G string since it was written for violin (with pizzicato accompaniment), but it’s played on harpsichord and other instruments as part of several suites. Ages ago, I had a trendy LP that played Bach hits on shakuhachi and koto (and occasionally a jazz backup ensemble). Not bad. It’s hard to wreck really good music if you play the right notes.

I’ve heard of a beetle that hums along to The Well Tempered Klavier. It’s a Bach Hum-Bug.
