Big Pharma has joined in with the Greed head GQP resulting in totally insane US drug policy. In the group of first world nations, the US is the only one that has policies like those found in third world countries.
US Doctors that get together and go to a third world country to help the poor no longer have to travel to those poor countries, they have discovered that the US is in fact exactly like a third world country so they set up shop in almost any US city and provide free medical/dental health care to the poor for a few days. The sad thing is that it took that group decades to figure out that the poor in the US were actually getting less health care than the poor in any third world country
Well, meaning no disrespect, that situation(with opiates drugs) seems to be more prevalent in WV than anywhere else—by a large margin. WV average income is underwhelming. It is third lowest of the 50 states—a full $20,000 less than the national average. WV’s literacy rate puts it behind 40 other states—and the rate is dropping, meaning that WV is falling further behind each year. And WV also ranks number 40 for feeding children. I think that Bette Midler’s attack was inappropriate—name-calling generally is—but facts seem to back her up. It took me just thirty minutes to check the above information in several Department of Agriculture, IRS and other government reports.
And epinephrine for children with allergies that cause anaphylactic shock. You know, the same drug and delivery approach that has existed for decades, but which have astronomically inflated prices that Manchin’s daughter got a huge bonus for inflating.
Because insulin varies by type and dose, I guess that it’s difficult to make direct comparisons. I should try sometimes to calculate my daily or monthly costs (translated to USD) for comparison with other diabetics in the US.
Here in British Columbia, the Pharmacare program has benefits that are based on income ( https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/health/health-drug-coverage/pharmacare-for-bc-residents/who-we-cover/fair-pharmacare-plan/how-your-coverage-is-calculated ); above a certain income-based deductible, patients pay nothing. Since I had the cunning good fortune to marry a woman with a union job, this is supplemented for me by her private health insurer. I haven’t paid anything for my insulin for most of this year (maybe all year? I forget).

I thought it would be “funnier” if the medication was an EpiPen.

Just because that’s what he’d do doesn’t mean everyone will.
