I think it is very logical thinking that if you can’t find the boots, you need to buy a new pair, etc. You don’t want to be caught in freezing temperature prepared. Look at the people in the Washington, D.C. area that got caught in the blizzard two days ago and wound up having to spend up to 24 hours in a 45 mile long shutdown of traffic. Just cold thinking of it and am going the find all of my heavy winter clothes, blankets, etc. and store in the car trunk along with hand warmers, water, flashlights with extra batteries, individual snack meals and a good first aid kit.
Where I live the climate is cold enough to be uncomfortable, but not cold enough to get fun stuff like snow or for people to prepare seriously for it, so we spend the whole time being cold and miserable.
Our winter is weirding out to the point that soon we will need wind proof rain gear and hip waders instead of parkas and snow boots. Plus boats instead of sleds and skis.
Yeah. I scored a Columbia parka on sale at their site for 50% off on New Year’s Day. Snow boots and snow pants are just fine, but that old parka was getting a bit ratty.
I have one word of advise for winter driving weather. Yes, bring all the above mentioned but don’t forget something to pee in. 24 hours is a long time to wait (at least for me).
Perimenopause and hot flashes have me dreaming of subzero temperatures. I step outside during those power surges and the snow starts melting around me!

Being prepared is great. Just don’t eat the emergency stash of chocolate bars from the glove box until the spring thaw.
