I used to do that, until I discovered that I wasn’t interested in what I had to say either.

I kind of miss the days of Shakespeare when talking to yourself was not only socially accepted, but was considered the highest forms of poetry. Romeo, “Hark what light through yonder window breaks? It is the east and Juliette is the sun!” Hamlet, “To be or not to be that is the question. Whether tis nobler to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune or to take arms against a sea of troubles and oppose them?”

Before I retired, when those that worked for me gave me a hard time about talking and answering myself, I would tell them, “It is the only way I get any intelligent conversation in this place.”

Nothing wrong with having a heated discussion with yourself.. but do wear earbuds to give the impression you are talking to someone else. People will talk if you don’t.

“I talk to myself all the time.”

    Why?

“It’s the best way to guarantee intelligent conversation.”

    So you also answer yourself?

“Of course, it would be rude not to.”

My standard dialog any time the subject comes up.
