I know these strips are a repeat from, what, 40 yrs ago?, but nowadays pet stores don’t sell dogs from breeders (most anyway) but instead host animals from shelters.
Happened to me. Swore I never wanted another pet. Stray cat had kittens under my porch. I now have a “Princess” because I did just what Connie did, picked her up. She was the only kitten that would allow it. The others ran and hid. Eventually they too got homes but Princess is my “baby”.
Several folks here have mentioned that these days a lot of pet stores “sell” shelter rescue animals rather than purebreds from a puppy mill. Since Lynn never did identify this puppy’s breed, perhaps she is one of them. That would be nice.
You won’t be disappointed! Their love is unconditional. only thing is you should adopt and not shop. if you do shop take it to your vet right away to be checked for any illness. It could be from a puppy mill.
I fall in love with dogs and cats almost immediately. Years ago, I found a stray dog in a parking lot. She was a big dog, and I didn’t want one her size, so we were going to take her to a no-kill shelter. Turns out they had a waiting list, and in the meantime we both fell in love with her and those big brown eyes. She turned out to be one of the best dogs we’ve ever had, and she brought us lots of joy for 13 years.
The Cat Café in Vancouver had to close for a few weeks at the end of 2019. They ran out of cats to adopt. I am not sure what they are doing in these times of COVID.
Could people please remember this is a rerun of a strip from almost 30 years ago. I’m pretty sure the campaigning about getting a shelter dog as opposed to buying from a pet shop wasn’t a big thing back then.

Now that Connie has herself something to cuddle, how soon will it be before Lawrence is jealous of the attention the dog is getting?

Puppies are cute. But they are not housebroken. And they like to chew everything they can with those needle sharp puppy teeth that they have.

Connie, don’t let your “friend’s” negativity get to you!!
That puppy is just what you need.

Just pray it doesn’t have Parvo. I’ve watched plenty of vet shows on cable to know that’s a major risk in the real world.

Dogs are the best. They remain babies forever and always want to please you instead of testing your patience.

Elly seems to know Connie very well. Besides, the house wouldn’t seem to be empty anymore. Pets always make wonderful companions!

Anyone know what breed Sera is supposed to be? Being in a pet store, could be a pure breed something or other.

We lost our good boy a few weeks ago. Their lifespans are way too short and they leave a huge hole in your soul.
