You dogs have super-duper noses, Poncho. We humans don’t even get that much!

Your feet smell like what you’ve stepped in.

Evolution from wolves to dogs gave them the ability to train humans. Who can resist “the look” of those big eyes and the wagging tail.

Evolution didn’t give them anything. God made them to be our friends.

You got your incredible sense of smell. I once read a article about bloodhounds, It talked about how dogs ‘hit’ on dead skin cells, and how the parts-per-million that are shed regularly. It said a Germen Shepard can locate a suspect in a building the size of the Empire State Building. By contrast, a Bloodhound can find one in a city the size of Philadelphia!

How about powerful jaws, preternatural smell and hearing, and cooperative pack hunting behavior?

My dog can see better in the dark than I can. She can lead the way to the bed at night and can see things on a late night walk that I can’t. Or maybe she smells them. Whatever, I trust what she tells me.

Dogs do see relatively well at night! Not as well as cats, but their cornea size and the amount of rods allow them to see at night. Their evolution sacrificed some color vision (cones) to allow for rods to enable them to see more at night. Their wolf cousins are more active hunters at dusk and later evening than at midday.

Perhaps Poncho can have a wolf fantasy story-line, if he hasn’t had one already.

That isn’t really correct. Dogs are supposed to have excellent night vision. They aren’t as good at it as cats though.

When my dogs come in from outside and hop up in my lap. I can smell the mud on their feet. I don’t need to get that close.
