Not counting Nancy and her friends, was there ever anyone besides Lyle who came to Cinema Club? I wouldn’t be surprised if, because of what Lyle’s ultimately become at this point in the strip, other kids didn’t join because they were turned off by Lyle’s behavior. While this version Nancy can be rather annoying and self-centered, Lyle’s really become no different at this point.
So they are watching a movie about themselves that they themselves are starring in? Is this the same movie that in yesterday’s strip Nancy called so cheesy and she had to look up spoilers to see how it ends? Really? Nancy is the star in it and she doesn’t know how it ended?
Fun fact: OJ originally included Thanos sitting next to Lyle in the after-credits scene, but Disney-Marvel threatened to sue, so he had to be digitally edited out. Actually, that wasn’t very fun.
The director’s reliance on various cinematic cliches — the car chase, the melee, the extended use of CGI — were simply pandering to the modern audience.
Lyle sits motionless for a minute, two. He listens to doors close, voices going out. He sits another minute, looks right and left, then pulls out a comb and tissue paper and plays vigorous marches with gusto.

The ending soundtrack music plays as Lyle listens alone, Simon and Garfunkel,
“A winter’s day
In a deep and dark December
I am alone
Gazing from my window to the streets below
On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow
I am a rock
I am an island.
I’ve built walls
A fortress deep and mighty
That none may penetrate
I have no need of friendship, friendship causes pains
It’s laughter and it’s loving I disdain
I am a rock
I am an island.
Don’t talk of love
Well I’ve heard the word before.
It’s sleeping in my memory
I won’t disturb the slumber of feelings that have died
If I never loved I never would have cried
I am a rock
I am an island.
I have my movies,
And my cinema to protect me.
I am shielded in my armor
Hiding in my room safe within my womb
I touch no one and no one touches me
I am a rock
I am an island. And a rock feels no pain.
And an island never cries."

I feel OJ missed a beat by having Agnes and Lucy play each other.

The post-credits scene really sets things up for a sequel.

“This movie left me with an empty feeling, as if something was lacking. There was no denouement, no real resolution of the central plot conflict.”

Lyle’s down in the dumps because he didn’t get top billing.
