I wouldn’t take a ride with someone who was driving with their attention on the phone.

If you wants their attention, hold a big screen showing a cat videos.

Them: “Why didn’t you answer my text?”

Me: “Um, because I was too busy trying to save my life by paying attention to the road.”

More than a few bad apples have ruined the hitchhiking phenomenon. Worth your life to pick one up now.. or be picked up.

Heard a story about an older woman who loved to talk. On a long drive by herself she felt she really needed conversation and picked up a young male hitchhiker who was holding a sign about a destination on her way. He handed her a card when he entered the car and she took it without really looking at it. She talked to her hearts content over the next hour or two before they got to his destination and he nodded and smiled at her. At the end of her trip she found his card and read it. It said that he was deaf and did not speak.

Actually that’s good screening technique, if they’re on their phones, you don’t want to ride with them.

The most unsettling thing is that it makes a certain amount of sense.
