One year someone in the office passed out sheets to pick which team who you thought would win from the bottom up (might have been college ball, I don’t remember). You put in $5 and whoever was closest to the final winner picked up the pot. Not knowing anything about football, I made a Christmas tree looking thing out of the choices and came pretty close to winning.
Blue and gold traditionally are the airforce colours, orange and black reminds of road maintenance. In the long run it’s the maintenance crews that win where it counts and the airforce was helluvaexpensive while actually not accomplishing anything without boots on the ground.
I live halfway between D.C. and Baltimore. I believe they were both early outs. I don’t have a dog in the fight, but then again, I don’t really follow any sports…
And, Arlo, Jimmy Johnson was right years ago when he started covering sports and realized he’d be writing the same article every single time: So-and-so won, thus-and-such lost. So he decided against that profession. (Happy for us!)
“I returned, and saw under the Sunne, That the race is not to the swift, nor the battell to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skil; but time and chance happeneth to them all.” —Ecclesiastes 9:11, 1611 Authorized Version
Janis’ method reminds me of an old Andy Capp strip. Flo’s method of picking winning horses involved matching the birthday of the horse to her relatives, the color of the horse, etc. She won; he lost and wound up crying.
I thought comics were written at least 6 weeks in advance? This is less than 2 weeks. Go Rams! Stafford deserves to win after all those bad years in Detroit.
For a few years when I was a kid the local paper would print the games for the week. It was probably the only thing in the paper my mom read. Every week we would mark who we thought would win. I won most of the time. I ALWAYS! picked which animal or color I liked the best. Mom was a die-hard Cowboys fan. My father was Redskins. The Bucs were always the worst team. One year my father actually bet FOR the Cowboys because they were playing the Bucs-who had not won all year. The Cowboys lost! Apparently it was one of the games to go down in history types.
I have never lost. I bet that one team will win and one team will lose. Since I never know who is playing, makes perfect sense to me! At one time hubby tried to get me interested. I picked games by animal hiriarachy.

My team is not playing, So I don’t care who wins.

Rams by 10 their defense is just too much for Cincy and my boy Stafford gets to win his first of what will be many superbowls.
He deserves it after rotting here in Detroit for all those years..

Arlo: If you have let Janis make the first pick every year and then lost the bet, you’re a very slow learner.

Remember in the Cheers Episode where Diane was winning the football pool. When Sam finally got her to explain her “system”
Diane: “Look here, Dolphins against Bears.”
Sam: “the Dolphins, right?”
Diane: “Of course not! Bears are at home, Dolphins have no place to Swim in a Forest”

The way they keep adding to the season, it’s getting to be year-round.

Super Bowl- yawn. Both teams win lots of money. You want to REALLY make it the Super Bowl?
The losing team all gets covid, and the winning team becomes permanently immune.
cuzinron47 almost 3 years ago
Arlo, you’re using the wrong criteria. It’s not the best, it’s uniform colors.

Tom Brady’s daughter has held the Lombardi trophy more times than the Cowboys have won playoff games in the last 20 yers. She’s 8.

I’m amazed that Jimmie J got such a short lead time on this one. Doesn’t he usually have to submit comics a month or two in advance?
