The love is free and unconditional, but the upkeep isn’t. My dog goes to the vet today to keep up all the requirements of the hospital where she is a therapy dog, although I always did them anyway. Once we also do the teeth cleaning, it will probably all cost me $1000 by the time we are done. No illnesses, perfectly healthy dog. She is worth every single penny!

It’s a shelter, so the county usually pays the costs. The inmates are available for adoption, although none of the main characters in this strip have found their “furever” homes. Sad

I listen to a lot of YouTube narrators of Reddit content. On the relationship channels, some idiot always asks what to do when a boy/girl friend wants them to get rid of their pet. The answer is always keep the pet and dump the controlling jerk. Anyone who dumps the pet deserves the abuse the SO will dole out.

And it’s unconditional.

A dog’s love IS conditional on whether you’re nice to it and keep it fed. Sadly, not every dog owner meets those bare minimums
