“No room for a dog” is a bad excuse for not having one. You have a whole fenced-in back yard with enough room for doghouse.
The truth is, and it’s entirely reasonable, that dogs require training, make messes and are an extra expense. Despite the promises the kids would certainly make, Darryl and Wanda would have to be the ones to feed and water it, clean up after it, train it, etc. They have enough to do with feeding, cleaning up after and training the kids.
