I will be SO GLAD when the remodel on our store is done! The remodel team keeps moving things around – often they move things to a temporary location, them move them again later to their permanent “home”. But they have been making many of our aisles much too narrow (they’re supposed to widen the aisles when they’re done moving things around). The store is a big disorganized mess and the customers are complaining because they can’t find anything. Sorry to say, we associates are pretty lost, too. I have a pedometer app on my phone and according to that, I walked 7 miles in the store yesterday, mostly helping customers find things. I only got stumped once, when I couldn’t find the furnace filters. The customer found them and showed me where they were. The remod team (NOT Walmart associates) is botching things up, but we’re not allowed to say anything bad to them. When Tim told one of them that they put a shelf in crooked, management had a talk with overnight associates and told them we can’t do that. We just have to fix their mistakes ourselves the next day. The remodeling goes on overnights. We wish they’d just close the store for a few days and work 24/7 moving things around so it could get done faster. We can’t say anything bad to them, but I bet their ears are burning in the daytime as we talk in the break room about what a lousy job they’re doing. Our store manager isn’t liking them much either, but even he isn’t allowed to say anything. We have about 5-6 more weeks of this to put up with (they said they’d wrap up at the end of March or in early April. They have a huge crew, but sure don’t seem to get much done in a night.
I try to jolly the customers out of their frustration by telling them that I feel like I should have a sign on my back that says, “Don’t follow me. I’m lost too!” Most of my customers have been fairly patient about the mess, but other associates have been getting yelled at by unhappy customers.
I feel for you, having had to go through that when I worked for Walgreens. Our local Walmart DID close for several days when they did the remodel. I haven’t been inside yet to see it even though it’s been close to a year. Wonder who makes the decision. I hope thy finish soon.
I always tried to avoid jury service for this same reason. I cannot sit just listening without falling asleep, especially in the afternoon. Meditation classes were impossible for me, couldn’t stay awake. Tried books on tape in my working days, made me a sleepy driver.
Can’t say I blame them. Chesney’s yammering on can get a bit tiresome. (even to Chesney.) On another note, saw a finch, a varied thrush, a bald eagle, and two golden crowned kinglets while out walking today.
