Indiana has several military installations. One of them, Crane Naval, “is the 3rd largest naval installation in the world” (Indy Star — not bad for a landlocked state). On a positive note, the DoD has initiated a program to conserve 3.5 million acres around these installations in southern Indiana. While the main goal is to “prevent incompatible land use around the bases”, it will also result in water conservation, reforestation, removal of invasive species, and sustainable farming practices.
The GOP Elephant isn’t even on a par with the poor extinct mastodon. It is now dead and gone, taking every shred of its wisdom and nobility with it. It was replaced by the GQP/reThuglican/Turd Reich Jellyfish. It now brings nothing but brainless, heartless, and spineless pain, misery, and fear to friend and foe alike, spreading absolutely nothing more than hatred and fear mongering wherever it seeps.
One day, many years ago, I was considering going to Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) for med school. I took a walking tour of sorts around Indianapolis and while walking towards the state capital buildings I froze in my tracks because across the street, with what I can only describe as proud signage, was the world headquarters of the KKK. That explains a lot about the state. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indiana_University–Purdue_University_Indianapolis
When these politicians decide to designate a 10,000 yr. old extinct Mastodon as the Official State Fossil above a Roads/Highway bill says a lot about their priorities to the Hoosier voter. Which isn’t MUCH! These political walking FOSSILS may find their careers EXTINCT, just like the Mastodon they voted for!
There are at least 150 locations in Indiana with mastodon remains and is the most common fossil in Indiana found in almost every county. In 2019 mastodon fossils were found on a farm in Seymore. There is also a large mastodon display at the Indiana State Museum. They went extinct about 10,500 years ago

So, Indiana is the official Mastodon State. Damn, I so wanted my state to be. Did they steal the vote?
