I entered retirement with all kinds of plans and dreams, too. It didn’t take my stick-around-at-home Janis very long at all to quash all of that “silly talk.”
When middle-age men say something like this, there are so many possibilities. They run the gamut from positive change to complete disaster. Just a few options:
1) We should travel more. Let’s go to Europe this summer.
2) I think I’ll get a motorcycle.
3) I’m not too old to learn to snowboard.
4) Melody in accounting is very attractive. Hmmm, I need to remember to take my wife’s picture off my desk on Monday.
What about that sail boat have had your eye on for so long Arlo? That’ll spice things up if you go out in a 25 knot breeze. Today’s strip could lead to Arlo getting his boat.
Had a ’79 XLS. Rode it for nine years as a primary means of transportation.Periodic mantainance kept me in the wind (and the rain). Sold it for a 1969 Fender Telecaster.I sure miss that Sportster.
Husband & I each have a lot of hobbies – they may start as a hobby of one us, but all end up joint. Both work at crafts (extremely small business) – me – embroidery, he is currently doing weaving – our living room is his loom room 11 months of the year and I get it back 12/15-1/15 for Christmas decorating, fabrics stored for quilting (him mostly) and doll making (me mostly) in the basement which also has a cutting table for same and for cutting mat board. He also does wood work (garage is his shop) and leather work (part of the basement is his shop). What should be the family room off our kitchen is our main studio – though my work table there has out of bounds for working since November 2020 when the food stored on the dining room table had to find a new home so we could have a place for Thanksgiving dinner for the two of us. We both like cooking (and eating).
We are both interested in history. I was/am interested in 16th century England and he was/is interested in 1770s America. We became late 1700s reenactors and belong to a civilian unit (as opposed to a military unit) – I sewed our clothing. We both do what is called “first person” – that means we portray a (fictional) couple of the period and we know nothing past the matching day in 1775 (or 1776 in July and August). For example if asked a question about the American Revolution – we know nothing about it, just know about the troubles at the time and are concerned about what is to happen.
Biggest joint hobby is reading. We have over 10 bookcases around the houses in our office, studio, bedroom and basement. Everything from novels (he is more likely to read same) to some antique books for reference to craft related books and so on.
Oh – and James Bond – the books even more so than the movies – husband’s hobby that I was brought into.

Not gonna happen. He’d have to get off the couch and leave the house to do anything. So, no worries Janis.

I agree with flushed; its time to write the sailboat back into the strip. Lots of adventures there!
