This is going to be such a nice dinner. I'll sit here, next to Hugh, Darryl will sit there and you girls can sit over there. Uh, mom? Yes dear? We're adults now... We don't want to sit at a card table. Oops... Sorry, force of habit.
We never had card tables for holidays. Neither side of the family. Although my paternal grandma does insist on a separate kids’ table. Other than that, no seating charts.
Over 50 people would show up at my grandmother’s house for a Sunday-before-Christmas-Christmas-dinner. The table wasn’t that big. Mom, her sisters (there were 10 of them), and their mom would sit at the table. The rest of us (in-laws, adults, kids) would sit wherever we could. Some of us sat on the floor in the living room or hallway.
