Grrrrrr! Here comes the big bad bear! Eeee! Darryl, maybe that's not such a good idea... I don't want Zoe growing up to be afraid of animals. Oh. Aaarrg! Here comes the big mean monster! Eeeee! Nightmares. Scary monsters breed nightmares. Right. Oooooooh! Here comes the big boogie man! Eeeeee! Distrust of other people. Caution with strangers is fine, but I wouldn't want it to develop into an unhealthy fear of men in general. Gotcha. Roaar! Here comes the government bureaucrat! I can live with that. Eeeeee!

“I don’t want Zoe growing up to be afraid of animals,” said the woman who is afraid of spiders, snakes, bats and several other critters.
It’s good to be afraid of some animals, like bears, even though she’s unlikely to encounter them.
