Not sure why, but I see Gladys as the caregiver type, providing in-home care to older ones who might need some assistance. I sense she has compassion to spare, once she gets over the whole “working outside the home” thing. Of course she might just suggest Wilberforce get a paper route or something.
Inflation is a tremendous burden on the elderly. Social Security and average retirement savings does not cover the rising cost of food, gasoline, medicine and taxes. It is not Putin. That is a propaganda slogan. It is our government printing presses bailing out “The Club”.
I had a wonderful full-time job until I had a bad accident that left me disabled. The pay was excellent and my hubby works commission and we had no problem paying our bills, until now.
I had this argument with my late wife once. I was already working 2 full time jobs, 2 part times jobs and doing all the housework, cooking and cleaning. So I got a third part time job.
can’t put too much on one person… my brother figured that out and it wasn’t a job, it was college and helping someone’s move… which took months. Maybe I shouldn’t say anymore then that. :)
I notice Brutus was so tense at breaking the bad news to Gladys that he broke his pencil. I guess, had I married, I’d be just as tense in telling my wife she had to leave the home of chatting and shopping with mom and actually earn money for the household. But, our man, Brutus, handled that task quite well and it only cost one pencil. For now.
I used to like Gladys well enough. Her inability to see her role here is changing my opinion of her. Her son is in school and she could at least work those hours. Many of us worked full time and raised kids alone on one income, and managed to never have outgo exceed income. If Brutus snapped the pencil, he’s really upset.
Actually. Brutus should rethink that comment. She works and both her AND her Momma will start harping even more at Brutus than they do now. I can just hear those harpies screeching, “what kind of provider are you you Loser?”That would actually be one of the lighter comments. AND you would have less time with them. Could be a win-win….
From one income family – then two income family – Now needing three income family. To old to be selling down at the blood bank with the street folks. To old for male escort. May have to die let wifey grab my insurance payoffs. Heavens to Murgatroyd.

Maybe Wilberforce could get a post-school little job, because it is better not to rely on Gladys.

It’ll be easier to declare yourself a country and run a deficit than to get Gladys to get a job.

I’m about 3 months from being able to go back to work. I’m spending my retirement savings so I must be retired!?! :)

In her eyes, the pencil isn’t the only thing that’s snapped.

If you think your budget is tight now Thorney, just wait until Wilberforce turns 16 and your car insurance triples

Seems fair. This isn’t a new idea – my mother did this back in the 60s.
