It works on cats too. When the kitty gets on a surface you don’t want her on you squirt and she gets down immediately. After a while all you have to do is show her the water bottle.
I have a neighbor who squirts the um, other end of her dog and I can tell you he will snap to anything she wants him to do! He went from a nasty, crabby, barking snarling little piece of disagreeableness to letting me cuddle him. He barked his head off at my dog, and a few squirts had him being friends. The squirting was not continued by the spouse, and the dog is back to barking and being unapproachable. In the dog’s defense, he was a rescue and his history is unknown. I think he wants to get along, he just has some very bad experiences and now he isn’t getting any good ones on his walks with other dogs or people due to his attitude. I feel for him. He’s apparently just fine indoors with his family. My dog doesn’t bark at him no matter what, so we just try to keep out of his barking range, hoping in time he will accept us again, not seeing any threat.
