93% actually seems like rather a low number, even taking into account the burgeoning population compared to back in the day.

Rat’s logic really doesn’t follow here (and yes I know that’s the point, but still). He should be saying that 93% of effort is futile.

He could also say that all effort is futile because everyone dies, but citing the percentage of living vs dead does nothing to back that up.

How many years ago did we decide we needed “million” to express a number ?

Assuming that the formerly vital put a lot of effort into achieving immortality.

The Romans would often shout at their military parades ‘Memento Moro’, Latin for ‘Remember we all die’, a reminder that death doesn’t spare us, no matter how little or much we do in life. we ought to live in such a way that at least those who mattered to us will remember what we meant to them.
