Try that in Lake Michigan or Lake Superior and even in April you will know it is cold in the water.

The Tuolumne river coming off the glaciers and snow pack in the Sierras gets pretty darned cold too.

    I prefer the Grizzley Bear’s club. C’mon, 70°’s and 80°’s (F).

Not exactly that cold? Well … they’re not exactly bears, either.

The water in most lakes, especially the Great Lakes, is colder in April than they were in December.

When we were kids on Long Island, we would go swimming in the ocean. We’d come out shivering, with numb limbs and blue lips. We’d lay out in the sun to thaw out and go back in. We thought it was fun.

My wife and I vacation at the beach in April and October. The water is usually too cold for my liking in April, but quite nice in October.

Who cares what the temperature of the water is when you’re cooling off from the 90+ degree weather we had yesterday…

At Cub Scout camp (in the summer around 6000 feet) the boys groaned about the announcement of a Polar Bear swim. It was just after sunrise and very chilly. What the boys didn’t realize is that the water was about the same temperature as it had been the previous afternoon.

I grew up in Massachusetts so I’ll use the Boston water temperature.

    https://seatemperature.info/boston-water-temperature.html

Pretty sure that there is no REAL discernible difference between 39.6 degrees in February and the 42.6 degrees in April. It’s still cold….Most definitely will cause shrinkage.

I did one Polar Bear Plunge back in the 70s. Fell off the dock into the Niagara River when it was 32-34 degrees. Cousin and brother did too. Cousin still does polar plunges. Brother and I do NOT!

Yesterday was my first time this season with the canoe in the river. I thought I was pushing the season a bit as I dodged the ice flows; but then I saw a pair of long distance swimmers enter the water, one wearing only a Speedo!?!
