I remember seeing the commercial where the SUV got spit out of a volcano. The next day, I was behind one when we came to a half inch lip in the road where there was new pavement. The driver came to a complete stop before climbing over this obstacle.
My cousin owns a farm in Virginia. He needs a truck as well as other 4-wheel drive vehicles. He complains about the elevated prices since everyone who has never hauled manure thinks it’s cool and macho to own a truck. Also the first thing he has to do when he buys a truck is take the passenger car tires off and put on “real” tires.
Many of those macho-oriented ads make me so angry! They’re tearing up delicate desert sites, they’re churning through deep mud as drive through creeks and rivers – all of which is damaging to the terrain. These ads encourage guys who buy 4-wheel-drive vehicles to duplicate what they see in the “exciting” hollywood-style videos in the advertisements. The State’s BLM service can’t patrol all of the pristine areas, nor can the National Park services rangers. These ads should come with a “WARNING: this video should be viewed as demonstrating the power of our vehicles, but please refrain from duplicating the damage to the terrain.”

Just another case of fools actually following bad advice from their GPS.

I like the Range Rover commercial where the vehicle climbs a steep mountain (Dragon Challenge) then gets hung up at the end (2:03)
