I thought jade plants were indestructable

They’re likely dead b/c they’re all on the mantlepiece & not at least in front of a window. Jade plants are not indestructible, they just tolerate stupid sacks of ugly water (human beings) better’n other plants.

I asked my wife about why a lot of her plants die. She said, “That is to remind you of what I am capable of.” Never asked that question again.

When plants see me they unroot themselves and run away screaming. It was so painful to see. The fear. The sobbing. I stopped buying plants. Now I only buy vegetables.
