    I just learned myself that most boomerangs were not designed to come back. An animal-hunting boomerang is designed to fly straight for knocking down a rabbit 50 yards away. The smaller, returning boomerangs were used for competitions and occasionally for hunting birds. I think we have cartoons to thank for our general misconception.
