Moderately Confused by Jeff Stahler for April 23, 2022

Sub-par movie

Don’t like movies with subtitles. I’m not a speed reader. Most times because the pace of the movie they don’t stay up long enough.

I love subtitles and use them all the time on English language movies because actors these days mumble so much or the music is so loud I can’t hear the dialogue.

I prefer subtitles, not just for movies where I don’t understand the spoken language. Can’t hear over the noise the chips/crisps make when I eat them.

I’m not a subtitle fan. I refuse to read a movie.

I abandoned Dr. Who. Impossible to follow the rapid fire brit stream.

Must’ve been the French version of Beau Gist.

In a foreign film, that happens shortly after she starts taking her clothes off.

Been there. With streaming I just keep my finger on the ‘J’ key or the pointer over the ‘back 10 sec’ button.

@Superfrog – You nailed it!

I don’t enjoy subtitiles, but sometimes they are necessary to understand the dialogue. Especially for my husband who is not a native English speaker… if there is any kind of accent involved he can’t understand what they are saying.

That said, I remember watching Life is Beautiful with subtitiles. At first it was annoying to read everything, but then I became so engrossed in the film I forgot I was even reading, and now, when I think of certain lines it is in English in my head. Beautiful film!! Bawled most of the way through!

It was when the lover Ennui stated why his love for Deja Vu kept returning as the same love he has for his mistress Tante’s pen. (I think)

Just heard about “Petite Maman,” sounds very interesting.

What I find truly annoying now is all the movies where they are texting and for 3 seconds they flash the face of a phone on the screen and you must try and read the entire text to understand what’s going on. I’m glad I PVR everything as I cannot read the screen that fast.

I never thought of that! I miss some critical dialogue by the quiet talk or mumbling sometimes. And the loud music is as bad.
