I have heard of dogs who leave food behind, but I have never owned one unless it’s a food they don’t like, or they were self-feeders. Beagles don’t make good self-feeders. Give them a full large bowl, and they will empty it, which would be enough food for a week. Food must be portioned for each meal, and it’s all eaten except the finish off the bowl.
I once had a small dog and she was free fed. However, during the night, I could hear her go into the kitchen, get some cat food, bring it back into the bedroom, drop it, and eat each individual piece. In the morning, there would be an empty spot from where she took it! Not another single piece ever fell into the empty area! She fell over from a heart attack at 17, in front of my son.

My tip is…..don’t eat ’em.

How about – “No more food until you finish what’s in your bowl.”
… which reminds me of what parents might say to their kids: “No dessert until (or unless) you finish what’s on your plate.”

When my Scottie Susie was living , she would leave the green peas from canned stew. They would be licked clean but she would not eat them.

I thought the use of the word “kibble” was an anachronism, but according to what I see on the Internet, Purina introduced the kibble in 1956.

My Golden Retriever gets fed twice a day and he ALWAYS leaves anywhere from 1-5 pieces of kibble. This morning’s tip is ONE kibble.

For Rover to leave any kibbles behind is obviously uncharacteristic of him. He seems to have been feeling obliged towards Red.
